Fundraiser Information

Today, right now, in Newfoundland and Labrador, there are thousands of people who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. They are adults living in your neighbourhood, in your community. Many of them are working in low-paying jobs as they struggle to make ends meet. They are children distracted by hunger on the bus, or in school with your children.

This year Renting in NL and the Newfoundland Tenant & Landlord Support group are holding an online food drive, and we are hoping to raise $500 $1800 between now and Christmas to donate to the Community Food Sharing Association. A donation of $500 $1800 would allow the CFSA to distribute approximately $21,000 $77,000 worth of food across the province!

* Nov 21: We have reached our original goal of $500, so have set a new goal of $900. *

Donate to the Community Food Sharing Association

Food Banks across the province want to help them, but they can’t do it without you. When you donate to the Community Food Sharing Association you help them end hunger for those people today. The Community Food Sharing Association is a registered charity based in St. John’s that works with Food Banks across the province to help them feed hungry people.

Did you know:

  • 40% of food bank users are children under the age of 18.
  • Bulk buying, and corporate partnerships, allow the CFSA to distribute $430 worth of food for every $10 you donate.
  • The CFSA distributes food to 54 food banks across the province.

Food banks across the province are running low, or running out, of food. Our economic situation has been a double-edge sword for food banks as more and more people rely on them for food, but less people are making donations. More on this problem can be found in a CBC article titled ‘We need help’: Food banks report bare shelves across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Because they buy in bulk, and due to corporate partnerships, the CFSA is able to get a lot more for their money than we can as individual consumers. Cash donations, no matter how big or small, are a tremendous help and can go a very long way!

Let’s all work together to help re-stock our Food Banks!
