Petition Regarding Domestic and Sexual Abuse

The form does not have Goals enabled.

Our petition received over 16,000 signatures! The Government passed a new Residential Tenancies Act that came into effect Jan 1, 2019, that includes protections for victims of family violence!

Domestic and sexual abuse is something that affects many people in a very negative way. These issues most often affect women and children. People in relationships where this type of behaviour occurs often feel trapped, like there is nowhere to go, or no way out. It must be an awful feeling.

In Newfoundland and Labrador sometimes for people in this situation there really is no way out. At least, no way out of your rental agreement.

We have put together a petition calling on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to enact legislation that would allow people to leave dangerous situations easily. Similar laws have been put in place in other provinces.

We would also appreciate it if you could take a minute to share the petition with your family and friends. You can use the Social Sharing buttons on this page to share this page with others.
